Assistant Herdsperson - Dairy Farm
We are a large, progressive dairy operation located near Phillips, Wisconsin, focused on high-quality animal care and efficient herd management. We are looking for a motivated Assistant Herdsman to join our team. This position offers the opportunity to grow, learn, and take on responsibility based on your experience, skill level, and willingness to develop.
Job Responsibilities:
- Monitor fresh cows daily, identify health concerns, and administer treatments as needed
- Perform health checks and treatments on sick cows
- Assist with difficult calvings and support maternity pen operations
- Carry out scheduled vaccinations and health protocols
- Move and sort cattle safely and efficiently
- Perform AI breeding if experienced (training possible for the right candidate)
- Assist with milking fresh and treated cows to ensure proper udder health and milk quality
- Communicate effectively with the herdsman and other team members to maintain smooth daily operations
- Follow farm protocols and maintain accurate records
Qualifications:
- Experience in dairy cattle care is required.
- Ability to work well with others and contribute to a positive team environment
- Strong observation skills and attention to animal health
- Willingness to learn new skills and take on additional responsibilities
- AI breeding experience is a plus
- Reliable, responsible, and able to work a flexible schedule including some weekends or holidays
- Ability to work safely around large animals
